Answers to Common Questions about Norwell School Q: WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS FOR SCHOOL LUNCH? A: A two course hot school lunch is currently £9.25 per week - £1.85 per meal. From January 2009 this will increase to £9.50 - £1.90 per meal. The lunches are freshly prepared and cooked daily on site. Lunch money is preferably paid per half term in advance. Cheques are payable to "Notts County Council." If you decide to pay weekly, this should be paid in advance on a Monday morning in an envelope clearly marked with the child's name and amount enclosed.If your child is absent on this day please send it as soon as he/she returns to school. Your child may be entitled to free school meals if you are on Income Support. If you prefer your child to have a packed lunch, please send it in a suitable small container, clearly marked with the child's name. Drinks of water are provided in school. No glass, thermos flasks or cans please.Parents/carers are encouraged to give children healthy packed lunches with no sweets please. Q: WHAT IS THE SCHOOL POLICY ON SNACKS AND WATER? A: As part of the Government's Healthy Eating Campaign, all children in school are currently offered a piece of fruit or vegetable during the day.This can be, but is not limited to, carrots, bananas, apples or pears. Water is the prefered drink and all children should have a water bottle in their class, from which they can drink. If sending a drinks container from home please ensure that it is unbreakable and clearly named. Q: WHERE CAN I GET A WATER BOTTLE? A: We did have a supply of free water bottles but unfortunately these have now run out. We ask that parents /carers purchase water bottles from local stores. Please ensure it is unbreakable and clearly named. Q. CAN I USE THE PHOTOCOPIER? A. We charge 5p per copy. You can also use the fax machine and access the internet provided there is a computer free. We also have a laminating machine that is available for a small charge. Q. WHAT TIME DOES BREAKFAST CLUB START? A. The club runs from 7.50am until the start of school. For details contact school. Q. WHERE CAN I GET A BOOK BAG? A. These are available from the school office and are priced at £3.00. Q: HOW MUCH IS A SCHOOL SWEATSHIRT, POLOSHIRT, PE KIT ETC.? A: For prices and information please see price list below. Q: I'VE MISLAID MY COPY OF A SCHOOL LETTER. WHAT CAN I DO? A: A copy of every letter sent out from school during the current academic year is kept in the office. This is available for parents to look through. Newsletters are available on line. Q: HOW LONG IS THE SCHOOL DAY? A: The school day is 6 hours and 35 minutes including registration,breaks, lunch and collective worship. The school day begins at 9am and ends at 3.35pm. Lunch is at 12.15pm and ends at 1pm. Q: CAN CHILDREN BRING MOBILE PHONES INTO SCHOOL? A: No. Q: HOW DO I ARRANGE A SCHOOL VISIT? A: Please contact the school office and we will be pleased to arrange a mutually convenient time. Q: IS THERE ANY PARKING? A: There is no parking on site. Should you need to park the school is only a little way from the main road. Parents and visitors are encouraged to park away from school as the access road is very narrow. Parked vehicles can, and have caused problems for the school bus and delivery vehicles. A school travel plan is being developed this academic year and we are looking to find alternative sites for car parking in the village. We shall let you know the outcome in due course. Q:HOW DO I PAY FOR SCHOOL TRIPS? A: For school trips, the payment details will be on the information letter your child will bring home.Usually this requires a one-off payment in advance. For residential trips payment can be made by installments. Q: WHAT AFTER SCHOOL CARE IS AVAILABLE? A: After School Care is offered at Dean Hole Caunton. Transport to take the children is available. The club runs from 3.35pm until 5.30pm Monday to Friday. The club can be used both on a regular or casual basis.
